geeked!

4 in a row! it's all coming together! larry's finally settling on a rotation! the new york knicks have potential! they could lose the next 4, but if they stick to this gameplan i'd be happy!

the singer not the song

on my last chealsbo excusion to 'le office chez douche' i walked away with the 'sun kil moon covers modest mouse' record. i was never a red house painters fan but sun kil moon, from what i've heard, are ok. and the MM, as we all know, are fucking retardedly great. this album actually has me really confused. it's a modest mouse mix tape run through a john tesh filter. smoothed out and dumbed-down. but it's not all that bad. 'neverending math equation' is a great song no matter who sings it, but kozelek is pushing it i think. it's hard to deny lyrics in a song like 'trucker's atlas' too.

but the thing is i'm a sucker for this adult contemporary crap. i mean, i secretly really like the new amsterdams ok? but this album, as with the colin meloy morrisssey disc, is baffling to me. i'm all conflicted.

fine "and that is that and this is this you tell me what you saw and i'll tell you what i missed' sounds pretty good all easy listening style as well has the 'elmer fudd barking' style. i would say, try to steal it from someone!

i miss the 90's

ken gave me a heads up a couple of weeks ago but it's offically blown up now: don cab has signed to relapse! i say good for them but i dunno why damon kept the name. i mean, he could've changed it and still played old jams. the way this band broke up/re-formed is lame. dino jr but kinda worse.

still, it makes me pine for the 90's. i used to do a zine and i had an issue that was a 100% fan-out on don cab, rodan, and slint. just me talking about them and all their albums. i used this picture as the opener. and it looked like this cause i zeroxed it 40 times over and it lost all its grey-tone. later on i got to interview jason noble and that was rad. he told me rodan would be around for years experimenting with shit and then they broke up a few months later. he told me this at the don cab farewell show at maxwell's!

so i'm getting all emo cause i left home for the first time 94, to take art classes in pittsburgh. i was super young. long hair. braces. at the time the scene there was great. don cab, karl hendricks trio, hurl and some other bands. the grifters came through that summer. codeine too! that's where i met john engle and doug scharin for the first time. it was a rad summer for sure. and somehow seeing this picture now makes me psyched and really bummed. an obvious response but still.

rad man report- 1/9/06

an interesting line tonight. 15 points. 5-15 from the field. 1-7 from 3. 12 rebs. 6 offensive. 0 blocks/steals.

the 0 blocks/steals pissed me off [38 minutes and not ONE steal?]. the 5-15 from the field will happen when you're a bomber, especially when iggy is on the floor. iggy takes his D game to the max every night [but his steals are down from last season wtf]. 12 rebounds is really nice. but i think a lot of them came late in the 4th with some tip-in put-backs. still, i like the 38 minutes, but you have to figure the lack of D is hurting the sonics. i bet reggie evans finds his back back to the lineup soon. eh, i don't really give a shit about the sonics, but i'm talking fantasy here!

i'm sayin

i liked 'you are the quarry'. a lot! i even got the b sides and listen to those too. i'm not hating the new ish just cause morrissey's 20 years deep in the game. c'mon i'm a stacey augmon fan! i'm just saying the new album didn't do that much to me. of course it's hard to get really into an album for the first time sitting in a weird theater next to spin mag writers, but i just didn't get pumped on it. to get all charlie rose, i'd say the musical range was too limited [other than the 'november rain' track which was rad], and the lyrics were lukewarm. and this just after 'the world is full of crashing bores', which i thought was shredding.

so that's that. i'm gonna buy it. like i said, 6.2. it's not great. it could've been great, but it's not. it's not total shit either!

i just had to post it

so lite! so good! good looking out fader/k on this clip. thicke looks more like that guy on food network that hosts 'the secret life of...' than his dad. with non-threatening jams like this, wayne's record is going platty for sure!

big fan big fan

"Rick Brunson doubts whether Latrell Sprewell will play again. Brunson spoke to his former Knicks teammate last week and said that Sprewell is enjoying retirement. "He was never a guy that grew up loving basketball the way a lot of guys do," said Brunson, who is on the SuperSonics' inactive list. "If he has a chance to play for a contender he might come back, but I don't think that will happen until late February or early March."

i miss the spre era knicks. that dude was so major what with the hustle and fist pumps. of course the most major crew was when he was balling with childs camby and LJ, but i also liked the houston rice era. when the knicks would play the bucks rice would defend darvin ham and walt would go, 'HAM'S ON RICE!' or 'THE HAM/RICE MATCHUP IS KEY TO THIS GAME!'

SO AMPED

k played me and jason some jams from the 'life pursuit'. YUP IT RULES. i'm amped! the production is huge and the songs are fucking jamming so hard. well, 'jamming' in their way. i will be buying the limited edition version of this thing when it comes out. will it come with a headband? glasses? sneakers?

let's get it: knicks finally motivate

and it's... trois! larry's widdled down the lineup and players are starting to play. the smiles! did you see these guys smiling? they're having fun finally! the hi fives! look how brokeback these guys are! larry's pumping up his point guard and steph is totally coming through. for the knicks AND my 'dirty kurty slacker' fantasy team! 25 points 15 dimes. nooo big deal. 23/12, 32/10, 16/11 in the 3 before today. where're the boos now? this guy is elite f all the haters.

david lee looks strong too. frye is a trooper coming off the bench. and big mo came through with some crucial baskets. since we're not getting a lottery pick this year we might as well try to finish .500 right?

rad man report: 30 pts, 10/12, 8/10 threes. he shot the lights out but i'm pissed at the 0 stls 0 blks and 3 rebounds. so far after becoming a starter i'd give him a B-. what can i say he needs to play more D.

last night i climbed a streetlight pole to get a jeezy 'certified platinum' poster. sorry street team that shit is going up in my living room next to the colin meloy moz drawing and a silver jews steve keane painting. i'm a douche!

so much shame

it's hard to pound 50 beers before dinner and be reasonably coherant. yesterday there was 2 epic sheshes for 2 very epic dudes. first hi-five to tony and his bananas year. really tony it's all downhill from here. how can it not be? it's one of those 'if you happen to brush up against him play lotto. 9/10 times you'll win' and second it was brian's birthday where i swear i tried to tackle him 15 times. too bad he's 9 ft tall. who would win in a fight will or brian? good luck tony! happy birthday brian!

oh i just remembered that i grabbed a piece of chicken from manute's chopsticks with my hands. i am the best!

do you like this emo picture? it's a google inspired homage to this band called belle and sebastian? i hear they're pretty good... anyway they are shredding the nokia theater for 2 nights and will definitely not be there singing along to 'i'm a cuckoo' and i have never danced to arab strap in my life. i wonder if they'll play 'we rule the school' only one way to find out eh?

now that i'm thinking about it, could i have been wrong about the new moz? no! the trouble with listening parties is that you can't really get into the album so i'm not 100% sure. just 95% i wasn't really surprised pat loved it, but really it's not that good. and that's not a dis to morrissey at all. c'mon he's in his 'patrick ewing- seattle supersonic' era of his musical career!

i wonder if cam ever rapped about mash?

it is my fantasy to one day own a pheiffer piece. can someone lend me $10,000? josh i think that's how much you owe me from drinking...

moz fan out sesh report no homo

i was so ready not to hate. i was super pumped will hooked it up and got me into the thing. i was all happy and riding my bike there thinking 'there's no way this will be worse than maladjusted or you are the quarry' sure i expect some duds but i also expect some jams right? zero! i walked in during the middle of the record, which was actually the best part of it. the single sucks kinda. there are some laughable lyrics too. not in the usual laughable way, i mean bad laughable.

the deal is now he's psyched and not emo at all. he want to live forever now and eat grapes in rome. i shit you not. in the release he's all, 'i don't give a shit about endearing myself to the public.' obviously not!

not to say i won't listen to this album when it comes out. i've changed my mind before. but if i got all pitchfork-wise i'd give it a 6.2?

there was a break when the recorded ended and the dude went to que it up again, and i go 'fuckit just put on vauxhall and we'll all be happier!' then i realized i was the only one in the room.

fantasy wise? rad man!

"I think Vladimir Radmanovic is a very, very talented guy who creates problems for other teams," Hill told the Seattle Times. "He can run. He can shoot. I don't think we've seen the best of him yet. He's 25 years old. It will help our team if I can motivate and get him playing somewhere close to what he's [capable], because his presence on the floor will make it easier for Rashard and Ray. Vlade, if he doesn't start and he probably will, but if he doesn't, he certainly will be on the floor a lot."

i've been wrong a million times before, but remember when you picked up damon jones last season? or how bout kyle korver? josh smith? j chill? i'm pretty much sure this is FA gold right here. i'm hoping for an average of 15, 7, 1.2 steals with 1.8 3's the rest of the way. imean, if you look at his game log, the nights he gets 30+ minutes he's solid. hell, anyone who's 6'10", 25, and been balling their whole life would have a nice line in 30 minutes...

and i didn't even mention his braids once!

"if he dies he dies" AK47 report 1/3/06

14 pts, 8 rebs, 9 asts, 6 stl, 7 blk, 1/2 3PTM, 1 TO

uh... WTF!!!

no shit trevor

"I think everybody is still confused," he said. "Nobody really knows how to look at things. What he sees or what he wants. Everything he's asked me to do, I've tried to do whether right or wrong" "

"To hear it from somebody else telling me that somebody has beaten me out without flat-out outplaying me, I've never had that happen before."

"Nobody really knows how to look at things or what he sees, what he wants. Everybody just tries to do his best"

no shit. somewhere matt barnes has a question mark above his head thinking, 'that was 'hall of fame' coach larry brown'?

best nye ever!

dr dog was great as expected! what can i say? they're awesome! brian totally hooked it up and got all the bro's in. and i'm secretly stoked that we stuck around to see crap your hands. not the best band in the building at any given time, but fun enough. c'mon it's harder to hate on them than to just admit that they're actually decent.

4 nights of epic shredding! time for a glass of water and some tv...

happy new year dudes!

rome is burning

larry's talking some serious shit about steph's line last night. and i have to say he has a point. if you clock 40:12 and end up with 5/3/2 you're just not trying. you stick your hand out and you WILL get 2 steals by accident. i think we just have to accept the fact that steph doesn't have what A.I.'s got. or what chauncey's got. or what sam cassell's got. or even what nate rob's got. diving for loose balls, taking losses personal. getting angry cause your team is being disrespected. it's embarrassing. where's the fire? you'd think getting boo'ed at the garden cause of lack of hustle would make you angry. but steph looks bored. what more does he want? a max contract? check. a new york address? check. a young team? check. a hall of fame coach? check. ok he doesn't have a KG but seriously. 40 minutes and 3 dimes? 3!

i'm saying. i'm a huge steph fan, but it's just so obvious when he shuts it down. larry's not really helping him by talking shit, but this season is fucked already. who knows. it's a trainwreck. but not in the way i was looking forward to. there's not hustle! everyone looks confused or grumpy. booo
